Old Mystic Inn - Old Mystic |
860-572-9422 |
The Old Mystic Inn -- This picturesque country colonial is tucked away in the quiet hamlet of Old Mystic, just minutes north of the more well-known village of Mystic. Visitors flock there to the Seaport Museum, Mystic Aquarium and Center for Underwater Exploration, crafts, galleries, and charter sailing trips. But all is peaceful at the red inn with its huge maple trees, gazebo and white picket fence. The inn was built in 1784, during the area's heyday as a center for whaling and ship building. More recently it was a well-known bookstore.
After the first floor of the inn was reclaimed from the 20,000 books that had been shelved there, each of the eight guestrooms was named for a New England author. The accommodations are welcoming and thoughtfully presented. |
